Python External Workshop
Did you know programming is now considered a vital skill? According to experts, coding has become the 4th literacy, on par with the traditional trio of reading, writing, and arithmetic. In recent years, coding has become a buzzword in discussions about closing the gender gap in various fields. As an initiative to encourage more young women to venture into fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Maker Girls had organized a Python workshop.
Coding with Python (Beginners) aims to encourage first timers to dabble with code with hopes that they will take interest in this field.
We were excited to run this programming workshop exclusively for beginners organized by Startup Campus Asia and hosted by Maker Girls. It turned out to be a fantastic event, with a room full of enthusiastic learners from all walks of life who came together to learn programming using Python. Coding with Python (Beginner) was held at Paper + Toast co-working space, where participants could learn in an interactive, inclusive and fun environment.
Targeted at people with no prior in experience in coding, this 1-day workshop covers the fundamentals concept of Python as a programming language. The workshop began with a simple ice breaking activity where participants got to loosen up while getting to know each other. The tutors then proceeded to teach the participants basic theories and concepts of Python. In the second half of the workshop, the participants were given challenges so that they could put the skills that they’ve learnt into use.
All in all, it was a fruitful workshop and we definitely hope to see more of these initiatives in the near future to introduce people to an exciting new world of codes.
