“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
~Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist~
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Run annually on March 8th, the day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Of course, USM IEEE Women in Engineering would never miss such a meaningful celebration.
On 9th March 2020, USM IEEE WIE organized a simple get- together at the ground floor of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The committees gathered at the venue at noon to prepare for the event in their symbolic purple tees. After setting up the table with a variety of refreshments including various pastries, cake, nasi lemak and iced lemon tea, we started welcoming everyone to the get- together at 1 pm. Everyone who showed up was given a bookmark as a door gift. Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Rosmiwati Mohd Mokhtar, the lecturer advisor of USM IEEE WIE, also graced the occasion by showing up for a simple cake cutting ceremony. Before the event ended, a photo was taken to commemorate the success of the event.
This event was a memorable one for everybody as it was not only to celebrate the women but everyone. The event was focal point in the movement for women’s rights.
